High Entropy Alloys are a new class of materials, also called Compositionally Complex Alloys. Materials of interest to us are high-concentration random solid solution alloys, with both fcc and bcc structure. We are using atomistic simulations to demonstrate that local atomic-scale fluctuations in alloy composition control the structure and motion of dislocations, and thus control strength. We have generalized our dilute-solid-solution models to arbitrary concentrations, and are now showing that the models predict strengthening comparable to experiments and to atomistic simulations. This is providing a path for the fundamental design of such alloys.
